Author Topic: A service that let's you share brick save files ingame online.  (Read 961 times)

So I've been thinking about making an add-on which lets you upload and share builds in a service vaguely simular to RTBs file sharing system, except it would be probably completely ingame. (I'd be making the server from scratch (C++) , and if I didn't have to add HTTP support that'd be nice) Basically, the way it would work is there'd be two ways of uploading a save file, either you go to the escape menu ingame, click the save bricks, and there'd be a 'save to file' or a 'submit submission' button. And/or there'd be a button on the main menu, or a gui brought up with keybinds that brings up a thing that lets you select a file to upload. Either way, you'd get to add a description and such.

To download there'd be a menu which you open either by a button on the main menu, or by keybind, that you could open that would let you select a file from a list, which would include the name, time and date it was submitted, the submitter, the amount of bricks, used/required add-ons, rating, comments, number of downloads, and the descriptions. There would probably also be a search that would let you filter out all builds that didn't contain your search string in the name. There could also be a button that would let you directly load an online save ingame.

This was just an idea I had after seeing it suggested, and figured it'd be possible for me to make, and wanted to know if it was a good idea?

I'm fairly sure this is going to be included in one of the upcoming RTB versions.

I don't believe Ephailtes has said anything about it in v4, maybe v5.
But at this rate, that might be a year away, no offense, of course.

Since the development of v4 is wrapping up, I've started planning out v5 which is going to be the save repository and gallery.

v5, and he said v5 wouldn't take long because v4 is a complete rework, and later versions will just be adding on.

Okay, well, I wish him luck then.

  • File Sharing - Depending on quite a few factors, you may also be able to send Blockland files to eachother over the messenger, such as save files or screenshots.

We'll just have to see how things work out.

Does it matter?
Um, if you find some kind of way to use dropbox to make it completely ingame (sharing, uploading, downloading) then go for it.

It's almost like you read the plans I'd written in the RTB Dev topic for this and then created your post. This is pretty much what v5 is about.

When RTB4 comes out, there's no need at all to make another file sharing program. If you made one when RTB4 was already out, then that would make no sense at all.
