Author Topic: Gasp it's another "building a computer thread"!  (Read 1389 times)

So I've decided to start a PC build, and this is what I'm going to do
First off, I'm going to buy the ram, then eventually buy the case, CPU, mobo, drives, ect all that other stuff EXCEPT a GPU, RAM, and MAYBE the PSU if I can find my old one
I'll be moving all the new parts I put in this current computer and replace them with the old parts and put the new parts in with the new computer.
Here's what I've gotten so far:
CPU
CASE
RAM

First off, a question about the CPU.
Currently I've got an Intel Pentium D CPU 2.80 GHz CPU, will this new one be any better?
Secondly, a question about the case.
On the details tab under "Cooling Systems" it says "80mm fans: No"
Does this mean that it doesn't have the slots, or it does have the slots to fit the fans in but doesn't include the fans?
Also, a question about moving my extra HDD into the new computer:
I've got two partitions on the extra HDD that I bought a while ago, one for storing files, the other has W7 on it. When I move the HDD into the new computer, will I have to reinstall Windows or will it just work right away? And will the partitions stay?

Most importantly, I need help choosing parts:
First off, I need a motherboard. Then I need some DVD/CD Drives, and a sound card (Maybe?), POSSIBLY a new PSU, if I can't find my old one, and anything else that's required for a computer that hasn't already been listed.

Bump from page 2, looking for some help still

Alot of words.
So little attention span.
Sorry.

Disregard  Helpless nob. Everything he said is stupid and irrelevant.

On that note, the cpu you chose is incompatible with your motherboard as it has 1156 pins and your mobo has 775.

If you are buying a mobo, then you should go with amd. You can get a quadcore for around $100. I'll try to help tomorrow but it is late...

What is your budget?
I'm hoping that I get $300 for christmas like I had gotten last year and the year before that, and I'm selling a few things for around $180
Also I've selected a motherboard and Burner and a PSU
BURNER
MOTHERBOARD
POWER SUPPLY
Would it be worth it getting a sound card?

There is a 120mm fan in the back and a 140mm fan on the top. These come with the case and the fan speed is set manually. It has three more fan mounts, one 120mm fan mount on the side and two 120mm fan mounts in the front. These fans don't come with the case. There is also an air filter in the front which you have to periodically clean (manual suggests once a month).

I wouldn't bother with a soundcard. Most motherboards come with onboard sound that is good enough. I tend to use USB headsets so they're pretty useless for me. A sound blaster audigy is like $30 though so whatever.

Would it be worth it bying a couple 120mm fans? Or is the two that it comes with enough?
Also yeah I use a USB headset constantly so it would be pretty useless too

good pc start(Make sure your mother board has the right processor type)
