Private =/= failed.

Most of the add-ons being traded here are failed.
Of the remaining non-failed 'private' add-ons, most of them aren't even private.

So yes, Failed add-on trading would be a more accurate name for this topic.

Only going through what I've heard of :

City RPG (Jookia/Peoplemods>Iban) Pretty sure this was released, easily findable
RainbowPlayer Public and failed
Hookshot Public, not sure if it was failed
Mech I believe these were publically released, but never taken from the old archive and publically ported before it went down

Right. Because that makes sense. All the other people have addons they inexplicably acquired by means of trading or just coming upon it. And almost all the time these addons are failed/spread around enough so that they are no longer special at all.

At this point I think most add-ons can be found one way or the other without trading. Oh, and Jookia's RP had the link removed by Jookia for some reason, so I don't think it's findable. And a friend of mine fixed it up very well, seeing as though the original had all sorts of broken scripts. I think it's well worth keeping. And I have private add-ons, just that half of them don't deserve to see the light of day
