I feel this is a fairly nice laptop

Don't get this. The only discernible difference between this and mine is the CPU on mine is a bit faster. Mine is really starting to show it's age (2 years in Feb.), so this Gateway wouldn't be great going forward. I was actually looking at this exact model when I was buying a laptop, but decided on my Asus instead.
