Author Topic: Laptop - HP Envy 14 Beats Edition  (Read 3235 times)

The HP Envy 14 Beats is the new laptop I am looking at.  I'm expecting to use my next laptop for 5 or 6 years, so I am looking for a relatively powerful one.  I am going to do light gaming and whatever, and I need your opinion.  Enough of my babbling:

Specs:
Code: [Select]
Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit (I intend to switch to Ubuntu)
Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-580M Dual Core Processor (2.66GHz, 3MB L3 Cache) with Turbo Boost up to 3.33GHz
1GB ATI Mobility Radeon(TM) HD 5650 switchable graphics [HDMI]
6GB DDR3 System Memory (2 Dimm)
500GB 7200RPM Hard Drive with HP ProtectSmart Hard Drive Protection
8 Cell Lithium Ion Battery (standard) - Up to 6.0 hours of battery life
14.5" diagonal High Definition HP BrightView Infinity LED Display (1366x768)

It has a nice red back lit keyboard

So now I ask for your opinion.  It is normally $1,399 but I found a coupon for $300 off so its now only $1,099.

Is it worth it?
Edit:  I forgot to mention it comes packaged with Adobe Photoshop and Premiere.

Yes.
PS and Premiere together would equal about the cost of the laptop already.

And isn't this the one with the subwoofer?

Hawt...

....prick. Give me some of that dosh. :(

Seriously.
Adobe products are very expensive.

Some of that what?

Yeah, it does.  That's the main reason why I am buying it.

Dr. Dre and his silly ideas.

And do you know why th "B" key is the logo?

HP's switchable graphics are stuff.  They require special ATI drivers that are never updated.  If you get that laptop, prepare for wild polygons everywhere.

:c

Is that for gaming only?

HP's laptops in general are stuff. If you want a good laptop, something that looks lovey, such as that HP, won't be nearly as good performance-wise as, say, a Toshiba.

it actually types out that logo every time you push it.

I totally agree with this.
I am asking for a Toshiba laptop around $600 and it has decent graphics, but for valve games. That's what I'll use mine for.

Why are you getting a laptop if you want something to play games on?

Why are you getting a laptop if you want something to play games on?
Mainly cause of this:
My desktop, which is a Mac, sucks balls. It can't even play Team Fortress 2. Hell, it can hardly play blockland. I also can't exactly get rid of it, I inherited it when my dad got a new computer. I also want to play games on the go. That's why I want a laptop, because usually the places I go don't have a lot to actually do. x_x

It's not like it's the first laptop to have a subwoofer, (Ex. Dell's Studio line's laptops) and furthermore Dre products have always been overpriced. Beats are overpriced, so then I'd assume that the 'magical Dre soundsystem' installed in that laptop is actually just hyped up cow stuff. I wouldn't buy it.
