If the candlestick really was from hundreds of years ago, it would've been blackened from exposure. The candlestick shown to the detective was shining.
Riddle six:
"Here is a painting painted by an artist in his last moments with his dearest friend. The weather was freezing and they were caught in a blizzard. Sheltering in a shack, that artist's friend made a request for the artist to draw a picture of him. The artist did so, and this is the drawing:" The man shows the ink drawing to the detective. "It's sure to sell for millions!"
The detective takes a look at the ink drawing. "That drawing is not possible," he says.
