Depends. How good of a laptop is the one you would be getting? Do you like musicing or computering more? I would go with the laptop, but then again I don't like musical instruments.

I would go with the laptop, I'm sure there's plenty of music programs available.

Laptops will not earn you coolpoints with girls.  Instruments do.

And there are no computer programs that can replace a guitar and/or bass.
