Author Topic: "Operation Payback" - Possibly the first cyber war  (Read 1875 times)

"Operation Payback," as they call it, was planned by a select few 4chan-elites. They targeted attacks on torrent sites, aiming to DDoS piracy opponents. Initial reaction then increased into an attack on big business, law firms, and individuals. Ultimately affected, organizations that had condemned WikiLeaks prior.

As you may know, it is not illegal to leak confidential information. It is, however, illegal to obtain it. Assange leaked it, he did not obtain it. The people who obtained it are unknown.

Information leaked includes cables stating future plans to launch probes, attacks, information consistent with other country's weapons arsenal, etc.

Could this possibly be the first cyber war?

Link or it didn't happen.

This is actually why my dad is thinking of starting up a career in cyber-security.

I invested heavily in Lockheed Martin today.

lol "payback"

they are attacking sites that are not involved at all. basically linking to grieving the average person who is not involved.

and there is no such thing as a 4chan-elite. they flaunt how they are anonymous, therefore they dont have rank or importance.
you cant have it both ways.
people need to quit trying to romanticize 4chan just because they are a lurking fan themselves.

When you say "cyber war", the first thing I imagine is a group of countries playing that tank game agianst each other online. :o

They attacked a law firm who was actively representing big companies. I guess they thought they would do more damage to that firm by attacking their clients; which doesn't make sense to me because when they are found, that law firm is going to have a huge ass lawsuit on them.

Drives me nuts how the media refers to them as "Pro hackers"

It's just a bunch of script kiddies DDoSing servers.

They should still be jailed for pulling this bullstuff.

Next 4chan is just Ddosing, like they normally do.
