The GTX 570 is the same price as the 450 and that RAM kit you shouldn't buy. You're not spending any more money by upgrading the video card and ditching the RAM.

VGA to DVI adapters often come with video cards and they cost like $5 if not.

You guys have been of super help. thanks alot. This topic is still open to discussion :D

If you're overclocking enough to need more thermal paste, are you sure you shouldn't get something other than the stock fan? That isn't something I really know about, so you can probably disregard what I said. Besides that, do you maybe want to get a motherboard with SATA3 and USB3?

I also just built a computer, here are the specs if you're interested.

It seems like you are horribly over-doing it. Especially for your first build.

I would advise you to not get an i7 if you intend to use the computer solely for gaming. The only ($100) advantage is hyper-threading which is useless unless you intend to high-performance video editing and what-not. Obviously, not thermal-grease is needed. Corsairs Dominator series is especially for over-clockers, I would advise you against it if this is your first build. I also don't understand why you want the nVidia edition chassis. You could also opt for a cheaper motherboard. More often than not, motherboards over $150 are directed towards over-clockers. That being said, you would get the exact same performance while using a $100 board.

If you went with an i5 760 or an AMD quad core that is under $200 that would save you an easy $80. Add the motherboard and RAM onto that and you just saved an easy $200 if not for while getting almost identical performance.

And no, there is nothing wrong with AMD. Amd can deliver pretty similar performance to Intel if you use the price-range as a factor.

while we're on the subject of computers

is an AMD athalon X4 640 3.0ghz processor good with a ATI Radeon 5770?

$1,300 is 'horribly over-doing it'? The only thing 'horribly over-done' was the RAM, and we've already resolved that. Where did he say this is his first build? I don't see what that even has to do with it.

Learn to read. He said he is overclocking.
