Pokemon Gold/Silver help.

THIS IS ABOUT THE CARTRIDGE, NOT THE GAME.

Well, I found my old gameboy sp. And it had pokemon gold in it. I was playing for an hour thinking yeah. Beat the 2nd gym. Saved. Turned off gameboy. All good. Right?

WRONG.

I started it up and it had  | START NEW GAME
                                   | OPTIONS

the hell?
Is there any way to fix this?

it happened to me before, still doesn't work.
Have you ever used it on a gameboy color? because I think that's what broke mine, or maybe its just too old and it forgets things

Do you know if its the game or the gameboy?

Try playing another game and see if it's a malfunction of the gameboy.

Gameboy works pefectly with my other GBcolour games.

Plus, I just read the the cartridges have those little round batteries inside, that keep the save files alive. So I have to unscrew the cartridge, not break anything, and replace battery.
