Actually, the mini nuke overwrote the default rocket launchers damage, and thus was crap-on'd.
I'm sure there's a similar reason for the ion cannon.

I think the ion cannon was failed because of the projectile, or that blue explosion that sits on the ground for a few seconds, it could have broken the game somehow

Well, the lag is not an issue, or it's OPness.
I think it has something to do with the projectile, or the size of the weapon
Also maybe the explosion

The Ion Cannon overwrote the Gun's fire sound.
When you fired the default gun or any other weapon that used the Gun's fire sound it would sound like the Ion Cannon.

No. Your wrong. If I used the regular Ion Cannon on a server, I would not lag at all.
If you think the Ion Cannon is 'laggy', stop using your grandpa's 30 year old graphics card.
