Author Topic: Trading Cards - That old Add-On from 2007... I found it.  (Read 19524 times)

I'm not really sure what you're talking about?
The master server stores the information on what cards everyone has, whenever someone wants to trade a card, they do so though the master server.
I'm not a scripter so it's a bit hard to explain. I mean that the client side add-on does the dirty work and server side add-on acts as a messenger between the server and it's players and the web server that controls everything. And you are forced to have the client side add-on if you want to do anything with trading cards. That way the GUIs and stuff work nice and dandy.

About the cards. Should they have a little text box for a quote/bio/something? I'm making a card design for stuffs and giggles to see if anyone likes it.

Sounds like another over-engineered attempt at a solution to a problem that has no solution, and a load of people putting a lot of effort into and getting over-excited about something which is never going to be finished, as usual.

Even so, it's nice to try.

Sure, but when the bulk of the work apparently hinges on this guy:

I'm starting work on the server now.

It's not going to get done. I don't think I've ever seen a finished and well-polished release. It just seems to be a lot of flip-flopping between various things.

True, I might work on that.

Work is happening on it very fast, I only started this a few hours ago.

Either way, I'm gonna start work on textured bricks or rounds, and then ramps.

I'll think about it, seeing as I may update this with a client gui soon.

So what drendran is basicly doing all the work. Heh thats funny.

There will be at most 2-3 rare cards and a billion crap cards. I'll be the worst card, though. :panda:
You'll be the worst card if you manage to fail at everything I'm going to make.

Though cards will not be in it till a while after it becomes public.

Must you be pessimistic?

I've hung about in the Modification Discussion for long enough to be able to know almost off-the-bat whether a project has a chance at succeeding. I like to try and convince people to pool their efforts into something more worthwhile that will actually get released and people can actually benefit from and enjoy.

Of course nobody ever listens, but that doesn't stop me. I'll be here in a month's time quoting this post when this thing fails to get off the ground.

I don't know who's making the Torque portion of this, but if they supply me with a protocol they'd like to use I can make them a server to work with it in Ruby, and have it hosted as long as they need it to be. Ruby is a very fast language to program in, and it would take me maybe ten minutes tops to type out the basic structure and another twenty to add in all the fancy features this would incorporate.

Even if the project never continues past the server (probable), it's no loss. It takes nearly no time nor effort.

I'd rather this not work in only a single server, Chrono. It's why that City_DRPG scares me off.

Please. Enlighten me.

Please. Enlighten me.

Well, City_DRPG or whatever is actually an extreme case... If you don't have the Add-On, you can't even join. In fact, whoever manages it is/was running a beta, so I couldn't get in to see people since the download was locked...

I'd rather this span.

What are you talking about, I've released plenty of larger add-ons, meanwhile I have some that just aren't publicly advertised.

EDIT:
Now that I look at what Ephi quoted, I don't even think he's really proven my failure in completing something, it really just looks like he's pointing out I have a lot of projects open at once. The blockland brick maker works, the class mod will get a client gui soon, but the mod itself is released and completed, and what he quoted here:
True, I might work on that.
I have already followed through on.
So yeah, I flip flop on projects a lot, but I also end up making things.

Also, truce:
It's not going to get done.

I'm just finishing up the server.
It's not really a big project.

How about you guys just ignore Ephialtes, and show that you're going to finish this?
