Author Topic: Trading Cards - That old Add-On from 2007... I found it.  (Read 19463 times)

Not a bad idea, though that means that the card could become seemingly more common if there are less players on.
Just because only a set amount of golden cards can be given out doesn't mean that all of those have to be given out during those 24 hours. The gold cards still have their rarity value and are dealt out as usual. It's just that when a set amount of them are dealt out no more can be given that day.

I can understand the desire to have cards rarities simple and easy to see, and there probably won't be a huge difference, but still these are trading cards, and a variety of rarities, and this values, of cards might make trading more encompassing and fun.
Of course some cards are rarer than others on all levels of rarity because dealing out the cards is randomized. That means it's possible for the system to deal out only one card for the whole day. Though that is practically impossible, but possible in theory. So some cards are indeed rarer than others but they still have the same rarity value as all the other cards in the same category.

I'll think about it, we still have some time before this mod really goes public.

Yes, but generally you must assume that if a computer is to say, have a 5% chance of giving you a card every hour, it's gonna give out that card every 20 hours for every player. Computerized random number generators generally have a good spread of random numbers.

With the amount of cards we're going to have it's not a big deal. Just to keep things nice and simple I think it's best just to have one rarity value per the rarity levels.

There will be two different gui's a visual one that actually shows the cards as cards, and a text list based one, good for testing before the other one is ready, and great for sorting by name blid or type.
Though I don't like how the silver stands out less than the black, which is less valuable.

The server and client are now completed enough so that players with the mod can start collecting and finding cards and viewing them on the text gui. I'll be working on the trading part of the script while I wait for someone to make the frames.

I shall start working on the cards then.

So how does your rarity get decided?

I shall start working on the cards then.
The frames or the actual card data?
If you mean the actual card data, the format is like this:
Code: [Select]
DrenDran 22749 A_player_of_blockland. 0.05 0
Bushido 2000 Example_card_number_two. 0.01 2
Nethog 1337 Example_card_number_three. 0.01 1
Badspot 1 Example_card_number_four. 0.01 3

The card images.

Oh yeah. You okay with there being multiple rarities of one person? For example Badspot would come in all of the rarities.

So there would be four different Badspot cards?
Some would be rebelliously amazing rare, while others would be throw out by the dozens to make room for better cards, and the only visible difference is the color of the trim?
Kinda sounds like a bad idea.....

Of course the image is different! The image on the card is really the only reason I would collect these..

So we should have 4 different cards just to get 4 slightly different pictures of someone's ingame character?
That'd just cause confusion.

Also, who wants to make me a list of cards like this:
Code: [Select]
DrenDran 22749 A_player_of_blockland. 0.05 0
Bushido 2000 Example_card_number_two. 0.01 2
Nethog 1337 Example_card_number_three. 0.01 1
Badspot 1 Example_card_number_four. 0.01 3
They can make themselves a card too, I don't care.

That's why the cards are all easily distinguishable. They are all different color after all. In my opinion it would not be confusing at all.

About the card design. What should it have? Obviously name, blid, image and rarity icon. Is the descriptiong really necessary? I have nothing against it but it does eat up space from the image. I can still fit in a small icon on the card. It would be above the description on the left. The rarity icon is on the right side. Ideas?

Here's the base.

Looks fine but rarity is a color not an icon, silly.

:<

You dare tell me this is not a lovey rarity icon.

The image and card borders will also be gold. The card background itself could be standardized so it's same for all cards in the same rarity level.

Is nice, is nice.
Also, for where the ? mark thing is, I have a logo I might use.
