Specifically this one is special. It was on the winter solstice which only happens every 300 years or something.
It doesn't really matter. It's almost the same as a Lunar Eclipse happening on some holiday.
When it does land on a winter solstice (N hemisphere):
1. Assuming it's at night, the biggest possible area of the N hemisphere can see it
2. The smallest area possible of the S hemisphere can see it
3. Vice versa, a S hemisphere winter solstice benefits the S hemisphere more
