What IS Religion?

A dumb question, but what is Religion? I had my thoughts of what it was originally, but you guys interpret many things over religion that makes my thoughts biased.

So, I thought religion was belief in a deity, or an all-knowing being that supposedly created man-kind. But, after seeing all the chaos religion has started, it seems like there's more to the topic of religion. I want to know what religion is, exactly. Why does everybody hate talking about it even though they always do? It's always "It's one of these religion threads, everybody's talking in it".

So why does religion start all kinds of bloody wars? Why religion?

Religion is a way to ignore clear scientific facts of how we got here!

Religion is basically a description of how the world works and how it was made.

Different religions have different descriptions of the world, so they argue and fight over it.

But since now we actually understand how everything works, there is no longer a need for religions to explain it to us.

But some people are too stubborn to give up their beliefs.

I have read the bible, and it said nobody can speak for god.

So everybody who talks of their religion is sinning?

Religions start wars because there is more than one religion.
In the same way that different political views start wars.

In a sentient species as large as ours, it's obvious that people will have different views about everything, including politics, random concepts and religious beliefs.
It's because people believe their beliefs to be entirely true, that they fight to argue over others.

Of course, when you look at religious wars in real life, there is almost always a political and economical background towards it that either majorly spurs it, or is actually the key reason for the war, and religion is just a coincidental aspect between who's fighting.
