Get Microsoft Security Essentials. It's by Microsoft, just got new network integrated protection, and is really light.

I'd recommend Avira Antivirus
Not very resource dependent, it's basic, and it works better than AVG.

I suggest any and all memory exchange be administered through the use of an external hard drive.
