No.
Unless you live right beside the main internet servers or something similar.
It's entirely possible.

Well I do get internet from insight and they have all that fancy 60.0 stuff and such.

500 mb/s? Jesus. Is that even possible?
i think he meant 500kb/s.

I usually get 1-1.2mb/s but today I'm only getting 100-300kb/s for some reason. And of course today is the day I just got my new laptop that i need to install stuff onto.

So, what? you download GTA IV in 30 seconds?

Oh yeah, because the person with the worlds fastest internet is some old grandma with 40Gb/s.

In korea internet speeds are super fast, the united states has stuff internet speeds. The average in korea is like 60mb/s and it's cheap.

people always think they can actually download a file at 20mb if they have that internet. but it just dont work that way.

No website would ever allow a user to use that kind of bandwidth. it would crash the site instantly if numerous people did that.

the united states has stuff internet speeds.
I'd have to say that also applies in most of Canada (i.e. the non urban parts.)
In my neighborhood, no internet speed exceeds 30kb/s

While at my cousins house in town, his at like, 5mb/s.

well when 90% of koreans dont have a home computer and have to use those stupid internet cafes.
i suppose it would be very easy to supply high bandwidth to the small remaining rich folk.

plus 60 is very good. but its easily available anywhere in the states.
comcast offers 80 where i live.

i think he meant 500kb/s.
stuff I do ;-;

Damn you. I have 1.5 :C

normal home users dont need more then like 25mbit connections right now.
25mbit / 8 = 3.125mbytes download a second.

3,125
- say you got 900k playing wow or something
- maybe another 800k your brother playing MW2 on his xbox
- dad's comp is torrenting 1 research file at 250k
- mom's comp has 20 browser tabs open on ebay and is actively shopping. 200k

you still have another 1000k bandwidth for multitasking other stuff.

having "faster internet" from your ISP is not going to allow you to do things faster and faster. websites and games will always cap you off at a certain point anyways.

if I downloaded that fast. I would be so happy.

well see how a 25mbit connection from your ISP means you have a max download speed of 3.125 megabytes per second.

this can be done on a single file sure. however where are you getting this file from? a website?
unless you are paying a subscription for this host. there is no way in hell a site will allow every of 10k simultaneous users to pump from it with that kind of speed. the site would crash.

the "speeds" are for multitasking and multiple computers in a household.

like if you lived alone and didn't share the internet with anyone. 8mbit would be more then enough. you couldn't even use it at its max anyways, unless you ran 30 torrents every day all the time.

Does Steam cap downloading speeds?
