actually christmas is on winter solstice
Christmas is
after the Winter Solstice (Like Brumalia),
commemorating Christ's birth (No one knows when he was born, nor when He was visited by the Magi for that matter),
dated because of Pagan tradition and holiday (i.e. Brumalia, the Winter Solstice festival, ect.).
Christmas wasn't even that significant of a holiday. It was more so made so that converting Pagans could still hold on to their traditions while being a part of Christianity, and to keep those same ideas of merrymaking and gift giving alive. But the spirit of the holiday is nonetheless more important then where it came from and why. The fact it was shared by two different religions, and now is even a part of the secular world, portrays an actually successful venture of peace and joy.
Also, you get presents for the new year. ._.
