What would you go, what would you do, and what would you bring?
I would go in front of my house, fill up some sacks and bags with sand(there is a sandlot a house down) and hold out for as long as I can with my saw and crowbar. If I lose/break those things, I would start getting household objects to defend. Lamps, pepper shakers, etc. Then when my house is overrun, I would go to the nearest pawn shop and mooch off the things they have there like pistols and ammo.

The things I would bring:
  • A nice long book
  • Snacks and Water
  • iPod
  • Sweater
  • Handheld Radio
  • Whatever I use to defend myself

If you are bringing electronics;

Don't brink any electronics. They'll just distract you from the real threat. If a zed is running up to you and you're listening to music you'll most likely not hear him.

And I wouldn't trust cutting weapons. Things like Katanas and Machetes that are more widely available are novelties and would break after cutting through several of the infected. I would prefer a metal baseball bat.

im going to use my universe cube to fit most of the non urgent things in there

It depends.  If you are safe from any threat, you could listen to music, read a book, listen to the radio.

This stuff is necessary only because as humans we get bored.  This only keeps us sane.

Of course. Just remember your solar charger! Most electrical buildings will go down due to no one maintaining them. (Not necessarily no one maintaining them, but there are other factors such as damage from the initial infection)

1. As much food from the house as possible, stores would have been looted already.

2. Some books.

3.  My family, although no pets because they'd waste food.

And then we'd get in our car and drive to our bug out spot.

I would most likely set up some form of safehouse until people band together and establish settlements outside of cities. I would take my family to one of the settlements and find an appropriate role for me in the community.
