Moral of the story: My router is a piece of stuff.

i live an hour away from one of them and probably like 20 hours from the other

Upgrading to a 5GHz N-band router quadrupled the download speed I get on these tests, and doubled my average download speed. Upload speed remains the same.

I have 2 routers (one in other [parent<-child]. using child router)
I don't mind crappy download.
