It's how the actual model is. He isn't trying to make an improved version, he's making a copy of it.And FTW, the default retail model's shoulders still cross into the player's body. Look at someone ingame with their arms up, the shoulders show through.

Sadly, he's still learning. So adding joints, animating, allowing textures, and making the individual parts that add onto it... seem beyond him at the moment.
