ok here's my question
what is with the trend of arbitrarily adding fighting ability to characters who are clearly in casual clothing or are at least obviously not dressed to be fighters
like, lalam is a survivor in a post-apocalyptic wasteland. he has to fight because otherwise he'd get killed by bandits or some stuff. to facilitate this he wears a vest and cargo pants, which are practical and comfortable
lariat is a mute prototype supersoldier who is occasionally adorable but typically a horrifiying death blossom. she fights because otherwise she could not pursue justice, and also because that's what they pay her to do. to facilitate this she wears her supersoldier armor that lets her jetpack around and dodge at incredible speeds, which directly affects her fighting ability
who the forget is jet
why can he just shoot ice beams from his hands
and dont give me that 'its more intimidating and easier to relate if the character is dressed plainly because then when they start slinging around superpowers the reader will clap their hands to the sides of their face and go "OHHHH MY GOOOOOODDDD I DIDNT EXPECT THAT AT ALL"' because no, that's the opposite of what happens
like they're so goddamn prolific that if you see someone with forgetin plainclothes without even looking up to their face you can guess they have, like purple-and-yellow-eyed heterochomia and are the last remnant of a superpowered forget-all elf master race who, despite being exiled from said race, will be able to summon all of them for a big forget-all superpowered master race special attack at the drop of a hat and approximately half the time you'll be right
that said, flaming head demon guy is at least moderately cool
he's not like completely devoid of the stuffty plainclothes trope but at least his being-on-fireness helps draw the eye away
