Did you literally just let the palm of your hand smear all over your drawing or was the haziness intentional?

Kind of a little of each.  I think the haziness improves the look, but the scanner I have sucks so it looks like I puked all over the paper. 
In other words, it would look better if it was on a different scanner.  But yes, I do ball up my hand and kinda blend some parts. 

Also, this is just a sketch.  The focus in this case was not on quality, but on getting all of the contents of the room.

That's usually better to do when you are using smudging as a form of skin texturing or minor shadows. But if you think that looks good, then I guess the sketch is okay in general.

Good job, I especially like a lot of the detail you put on the smaller items.
