As for your drawing I think you should establish some guidelines. Like you know how when you're writing on a blank sheet of paper and you're really into it and after 5 minutes you realize your words are drooping down towards the right side? Yeah, that can happen in drawing too. Sketch a quick grid with the side of your pencil or with a 2H if you're fancy, or some guideline indicating the top/bottom of important parts (in this case the top of the slide and bottom of the trigger, as well as the gradient of the grip)
In fact I think you should try out doing an undersketch first, you have potential with the details bit but you need to focus on the main bits first before working with the itty-gritty
i know the bottom and the top i do normally correct it if it's looking bent, these were rushed, and the javelin was also for art class in my school. i can't help but do the small-lines-to-make-a-line thing, but i correct it by drawing another line all the way through it, and then erasing the edges.
