So like, I don't see how the pump would work but I do see how we could MAKE it work. Perhaps the pump is riding along a long screw which rotates as you pull the pump, in turn somehow rotating the cylinder per catridge.

Is anybody good at "rendering"? I'm supposed to be avoiding outlines but honestly sort of feel stumped. Any ideas on how I can make it look better?

Well you'd be surprised that I was disappointed that you rage-quit. I do admire your art. You should focus less about peoples opinions and just carry on doing what you love. That's not to say that criticisms should be welcomed occasionally so that you can form your art better every so often.
