the teacher was forcing us to do drawings by looking at an object and not looking at our paper at all. I don't really know what that helps with but whatever I guess.

this is supposed to help built hand-eye coordination and it can actually be useful. I haven't done enough of contour drawings to get a grip on them but they're really helpful for capturing movement.
