She doesn't feel pain from the gap in her head, but touching any of the parts is like tickling her armpits, it just feels funny.

Nah, she's like that forever. She can use a hat or bandana to hold them in place, or she can consciously hold them upright with neck muscles, but if they're loose they just flop down.
