Language to learn?

I was wondering what programming language I should learn. I have absolutely no experience at all. Help me :C

What you would like to do with your language skills would be helpful.

Program silly web games for fun and what have you? Java or Flash (whatever that uses).

Write general use programs or traditional non-web games? C family of languages are a good set to do that.

Artificial intelligence and other university level research? Lisp.


The real issue is is that you won't bother learning any of these languages after you spend three minutes and see the amount of work involved.

I'm on page 66 of C++ for dummies :l Been a bit longer than 3 minutes, But I don't know if I should learn C++ or Java, C++ will help me in the long run if I want to develop games, but it's a VERY long run. In Java I could be making a game in no time. Ugh, decisions decisions.

Edit: I think I'm going to learn C++. Someone tell me otherwise before I actually start.
