Author Topic: What would happen to Blockland if Badspot died?  (Read 5579 times)

OMFG!!! NO MORE UPDATES!!! That would be sad.

My guess is:

A: Badspot will give it over to Ephalities or Kompressor or someone good like that.

B: Badspot dies without giving it to Kompressor, but Kompressor probably knows the key to the master server...

C: The downfall of Blockland?!

Do you even know who Kompressor is?

Do you even know who Kompressor is?

All he seemed to do was just list what everyone just said. :/

Probably, he would leave it in his Will for someone to take over Blockland. My guess would be Ephi takes over.
Agreed.

If Badspot were to die, kompressor would likely pick up where he left off.

C: The downfall of Blockland?!

that wouldn't happen it won't just 'stop working' cause someone is dead

worst case would be no more updates which wouldn't be so bad but it would suck to not have Badspot kicking ass on these forums

I believe the most realistic answer to the question would be:

  • No more updates would be released, nobody can just take the game unless Eric allowed for it. I don't believe that someone who worked on Blockland like kompressor can take the project over if Badspot died, unless he specifically said to that person in advance. Ephi can't just decide to pickup the project, especially without the source anyhow. Wishful thinking.
  • The forums and master server would likely go down, users would open up alternative communities OR the RTB forums would be used.
  • No more keys would be issued, the community would stop growing. Key sharing may explode.
  • Custom user-made mods would appear, its possible players would develop a custom server browser mod as an alternative to the official master server which goes down. Not sure if thats possible, but no doubt people would try.
  • Servers would still host, people would connect directly to IP instead.
  • Users would probably slowly move to alternative games
  • Blockland would eventually fall off the grid, with broken in-game services, no updates, and a cap on the communities growth, people would eventually get bored and leave, or would grow older and drop the game

The game would eventually die. If the person who created the game and develops, operates, sells and maintains it dies, it is over.

Well, it could take 2 paths depending on what happens.

1: no one takes over, and blockland enters a death spiral before crashing.

2: someone else takes over. Then the game will change.

Blockland is not some world empire.

It's a game.

The game would go to whoever else in in Blockland LLC, or the executor of the will would give the rights to someone.

Of course, this wouldn't be lkely happen till atleast 30-40 years. Badspot would probably give up on Blockland and pass it down to someone he trusts to take over. So we shouldn't worry.

Isn't Blockland technically owned by Garage Games in one way or another? If anyone were to "take it over" my guess is it would be them.

The game would eventually die. If the person who created the game and develops, operates, sells and maintains it dies, it is over.
Let's see about that... *loads guns*
;P

Of course i wouldn't do such a thing, but yeah, you get the 'joke'.
