Author Topic: Quantum entanglement - this is some cool stuff  (Read 2325 times)

Birds have special cellular and molecular systems in their eyes to allow them to detect magnetic fields. The system has a natural way of performing quantum entangling, and that is why they know which direction to fly.

I want to go shoot electromagnetic waves at a bird.

Quantum Entanglement is a suggested method of communication that would allow crystal-clear instant messages between stars and space ships.  This could establish reliable internet connection on a computer onboard a ship that is ~20ly away from Earth.

My grandkids will be trolling on blockland from mars.

No, this is not what quantum entanglement is at all. Radio waves work perfectly fine anyway, and as a bonus, are actually able to go the speed of light. There is NOTHING in quantum physics (or any physics) that can break the speed of light.

Quantum entanglement has been proven for 39 years.

First one: You're stupid.
Second one: We're stupid.

is that so~
i guess the stuff i read just doesn't care then.
Ya, display technology, photovoltaics, medical imaging, other junk. The computing part is a major area of interest though. It'd be kind of a big deal if a feasible computer could be made using qubits.

Bump because I like the discussions going on in this topic; I didn't know a lot of this stuff before I posted this.

Very old... but still loving awesome.

In 2006 scientists teleported a photon approximately 79 miles and made the horrifying discovery that anything that is teleported will die and be copied at the other end of the quantum leap. Fortunately, the copy will be exactly like the original. This means if they learn how to use the same method on larger things we haz beam me up Scotty.
Who would kill themselves just so a "copy" of themselves would get from one place to the other?
You would "sorta" die. I wouldn't :p

"I hear they invented these big metal flying machines that carry you through the sky to other countries and states."

"Pffft, I am never getting on one of those."

-=70 Years Later=-

"forget teleportation, that stuff is whack."

Holy crap, this sounds exactly like the tech they use in Mass Effect for their trans-galactic messaging using the hologram chat thingies (at least for private paired systems anyway, hence the entangled atoms).
Damn, I don't remember that and I did more reading than playing in Mass Effect.

I clearly remember it as a point of discussion with EDI in the conference room aboard the Normandy in Mass Effect 2.

Oh, I assumed he meant ME1 because he said ME1.

I've played through some of ME2. I do think I talked with EDI in the conference room, but I guess I didn't retain much of that stuff.

Dude that's freakin sweet, that means.. that means a whole lot of things!

Just so everyone knows, Quantum Entanglement never has, and never will, mean that we can transfer information simultaneously (Quantum teleportation is not instantaneous). It is IMPOSSIBLE to transfer information faster than the speed of light would allow (or at least with current technology, and likely any technology that will show up any time in the next several hundred years, if ever).

Also, quantum teleportation has only been claimed to work up to about 10 miles with a single PHOTON. Anything more that you hear is false.

The point is, quantum entanglement is only useful for three things, quantum teleportation, quantum computing, and learning more about the universe. Quantum teleportation likely is only going to be used for inanimate objects and can never go faster than the speed of light anyway, and quantum computing is still a long way off.

i can order computer parts in the speed of light?
