Properly planning out the length of rooms so you can easily chose the proper bricks and use them in a pattern or using 2X4 or something to make a brick like pattern and some color deviation

try again but this time use strategic placement of bricks, usually creating diverse patterns in the walls and elevating the walls by adding 2x2 bricks in a brick wall kind of pattern.

That's good for a first build, much better than mine...
Mine was a sandbag with a 64x64 cube as a tower.... oh, also  it had a person I made out of bricks with a gun and a lot of emmitter spam.........

Good job for a first build! If you want to learn how to build better just join other people's servers. The more stuff you see and experience that is made by an experienced builder the more of an idea you will get on how to improve and evolve your own building style. Just be sure not to absorb too much of the other people's style to the point where it is copying :P
