Author Topic: >500kb 3d demonstrations  (Read 2337 times)

So I was browsing across the web, and stumbled upon Scene.org, which is home to apparently competitions to make 3d demo programs

While browsing, I came across Farbrausch, and one of their amazing demo's clocked in at under 200kb of space to run
The file size compression is incredible

to see this, you can either view it on youtube, or if you have a decent computer, run the demo itself

WIKIPEDIA ARTICLE

YOUTUBE LINK

DOWNLOAD
only if your pc has decent specs
File size: 179 kb

Note: some antiviruses may flag this as virus under the name of kkrunchy
this is actually piece of file conpression software being used to keep the filesize low for 3d demos
therefore completely safe

All the graphics are generated in real time by the program. If you knew anything about sweet programming languages you'd know this isn't far-fetched.

Or just watch the youtube vid.

GIANT FLOATING CUBES AAAAAAAHHHHHH

It's funny because the download link is a virus. Ad-Aware caught it. Good thing I scanned before I ran it. I knew it was impossible to have a 3D demo with only 200kps.

You are not allowed to post EXEs.

you drive a car to work?Pffft,I drive my skyscraper.

First off, its not a virus, your virus scanner just trips off because the heuristics are similar to that of a virus who used the kkrunchy software to compress the file size of a virus, therefore its a false detection. it happens.

Second, I did not link to an EXE file, i linked to a link that links to a zip that contains an exe file.

Third of all, kkrunchy is an program compression utility

1. I have yet to see Ad-Aware encounter a false alarm.

2. @ Kalph, you can't post .exes?

3. So? I really doubt a program can compress an animation that looks like it would use 200mbs into 200kps.

After using the KKrunchy compression utility, antivirus can NOT tell whats inside an exe, therefore they have decided to block the algorithm as a whole due to people abusing the technology and compressing viruses to avoid detection.

200kb is possible because they use assembly to code the demos, which is a low level programming language. Also, all of the 3d and sound is not stored within the file itself, rather it uses lines of code to generate it while loading the program.

also, read the youtube comments

no one said you "have" to download anything. watch the youtube vid and be happy

Really keonesan, do you ever bother reading something before splurting out bullplop? The video is render in real time. Not like video game real time which uses premade models either. All the graphics are generated in real time by the program. If you knew anything about sweet programming languages you'd know this isn't far-fetched.

Well excuse me for not being all loving knowing. I just figured that something like that wouldn't be supported by our current technology.

Why you go take your loving ego and maybe, just maybe think that not everyone is as "great" as you.

WHAT THE forget DID I JUST WATCH.

I feel like I just smoked 38 tubs of weed. jesus loving christ that was a trip.

lol

That's your response every time I point out that you're wrong lol. Well it is supported by current technology and the idea has existed for decades now. The issue is that it is not terribly efficient on the RAM side of things, where the easiest solution is in waiting for more RAM to become common place.

Brief history of computing memory:
Quote
Write program. stuff, need more room.
*Get more memory*
Write bigger program. stuff, need more room.
*Get more memory*
Write bigger program. stuff, need more room.
*Get more memory*
...

Why you go take your loving ego and maybe, just maybe think that not everyone is as "great" as you.
I don't remember when I happened to shove my snake into your ass without lube or consent to illicit a response like this.
then don't act like your all knowing

Exactly. He's mad that he got told he was wrong because he was wrong.
