Author Topic: Calculators  (Read 1290 times)

I'm looking for a used TI calculator (because I'm cheap and don't feel like wasting $100 on a current one) and I don't know what to choose.

I want to basically know all the pros and cons of the major TI calculators, such as:

How much memory does it have?
How much backwards compatability does it have?
Is it easy to lie it flat and not fumble around for keys?
How do the buttons feel? (Stupid question, I know, but, for instance, the TI-83 has mushy buttons, whereas the 84 has very "clicky" types)
If it runs apps or games, how well do they run?
How is its battery life?
What courses is it good for?
And, most importantly, is it complicated to use or straightforward?

Please, only post serious stuff about them if you own one or have used one for a while.
I also intend for any other people trying to look for a calculator to use this as a reference.

Here are pics of the calculators I'm talking about:

TI-83+

TI-84+ (Silver Edition is, well, Silver)

TI-86 (TI-85 has square arrow keys)

TI-89 Titanium (TI-89 looks a lot like TI-83+)

TI-Nspire CAS (regular doesn't say CAS on it, hurr durr)

Top one can hold 200+ Lines

We have TI-84's in our school, only they are yellow. We have one silver one with games. It's an excellent calculator. Buttons feel great, it's easy to use once you get used to it, and it's very durable.

TI-84+ Silver Edition is what I have, and I love it. It's got a huge database of games and apps here. I never really have memory problems, but then again I only play games on the PuzzPack and Sketchy and things like that.

Who really needs a fancy calculator? I can accomplish the same with a 1$ hue calculator from the dollar store.

I also like Snake and Contra

Really?

You can graph and play games on a $1 calculator?

/sarcasm
I'm not looking for a TI-30-whatever, I had one of those.
For a lot of schools the standard is a TI graphing calculator.

Oh, and I love the ticalc database.
