What they're having a hissie fit over is macroevolution, what scientists say is the method of our being, because this is impossible to observe. i think the point i was making was that they were 'organisms' capable of replicating themselves while being much more simple than a generic cell of today
think of a virus.

the only thing thats random about evolution is the introduction of mutations
mutations are almost universally minor and they can either be beneficial or derogative to the organism's wellbeing
in evolution we have several subjects of varying genetic makeup. some of them have genetics that are beneficial to their survival in the environment they are in, and some are not. those who are successful tend to reproduce more efficiently, drowning out genetics that are not favored
