Author Topic: Samurai vs. Knight  (Read 4722 times)

Yes I went there.
So, who would win in straight-up sword to face combat? No horses, no ranged weapons.

This seems to be another of those x versus y situations that always crops up somewhere, but I haven't seen one here. It really does seem rather silly though once you think about it, because the two would have never fought. A knight's equipment was created for fighting other knights, and samurai were supposed to fight other samurai. This kind of comparison in no way means one is "better" than the other.

However, if I had to pick one, It would be the knight. As far as I know, the samurai's katana is not designed to cause blunt trauma (like a mace or flail), nor is it capable of slicing through the plate armor knights wore. That pretty much seals it right there, the samurai has almost no way to injure the knight.

I might be misinformed about some of this though, so correct me if I'm wrong. Or correct others who are wrong.

I really like the samurai, but I think the Knight would win.

Knight because of armour, if the samurai got the knight in the neck, possibly, but plate armour has huge sheets of metal to protect from that

KNIGHT ZOMBIE ROBOT SAMURAI ftw

I'm going to go out on a limb and say the samurai. If this is "no mounted combat" then the knight in that picture who looks like later medieval knights would be forgeted. It's basically impossible to move in that huge full plate armour and so the samurai would just wait 'till he collapses out of exhaustion.

Samurai looks constipated.

I would imagine the knight would win.
Any knight wielding any form of flail would have an upper hand due to the speed of it from being swung around, but also because it could have a slightly longer reach than a sword.

However if this is a knight with a long or heavy sword, I reckon the Samurai would have the speed bonus against him.

I also reckon the Knights full armour piece would protect him from a lot of fatal blows that the samurai could throw at him. The helmet in particular would provide a nice shield for him.

Edit: Even though the Samurai have a fighting code that Knights don't follow.

Samurai hands down, the skill of a Samurai would easily chop that knight into noodle soup.

And then Ash would drive in and chop the winners face off.

If not for the fact that plate armor is almost entirely swordproof. Skill doesn't matter when your weapon is ineffective. Doesn't matter how good of a gunslinger you are with a revolver when you're going up against a tank.

Plate armor doesn't limit movement nearly as much as you think it does. While it would definitely be heavier and harder to move around in than the samurai's lighter armor, the amount of mobility provided is plenty for one on one combat.
