Author Topic: Dungeons & Dragons (RolePlay) [Server]  (Read 4897 times)

This server brings D&D to blockland, I've created several classes with skills in each for players to use as they delve through an epic storyline of a group of adventurers. The classes are: Fighter (The strong high defense character) Rogue (The scout/ninja) and Wizard (The magic user with numerous skills).

If you don't know what D&D is, or don't know how to play, here's a quick guide:
The goal of D&D is to quest. The quests are laid out by your DM (dungeon master) whom you must listen to at all times. When you start a quest with your party, you'll be informed of the area, then it's up to you!

Generally when you enter any room or new area your rogue should go first to search/listen/peek/trapfind to see what's going on, this could prevent some serious injuries in your party.

When you enter a battle, initiative will be rolled to determine the order of attack. Generally, all things in D&D are based upon the rolling of a 20 sided or 6 sided die.

If you take massive damage and end up getting to 0 hp, you will be considered unconscious, being unable to move. Anything from -1 to -9 hp is dieing, and every few turns you will lose hp. Once you hit -10, you're dead!
Dead characters will lose all weapons and stats, though your party can take the dead player's items and give them back to the dead character if they create a new character (starting at level 1)

The maximum number of characters at the moment is 4, 1 player per separate class is REQUIRED. However, the 4th player may choose any class.

Note that D&D is all role play, you won't actually be seeing monsters and fighting them.

Example gameplay:
(DM): You enter the dark cavern.
(Rogue): I search the area.
(DM): It's too dark to see.
(Rogue): I use my torch and search.
Dice Roll (D20) - 13 (Due to a skill that the rogue has, 3* will be added to that roll.) *Depending on search skill lvl.
(DM): The cavern is dimly lit, you see the movement of small shady figures along the ceiling and a wooden door in the distance.
(Rogue): I listen.
Dice Roll (D20) - 17 (Due to a skill that the rogue has, 2* will be added to that roll.) *Depending on search skill lvl.
(DM): You hear a faint shrieking/chirping noise.
(Rogue): I think they're bats, follow me guys, lets try to sneak past them.
(Fighter): On my way.
(Wizard): I'm following.
(Rogue): Dice Roll (D20) - 14 (+3 for sneak skill)
(Wizard): Dice Roll (D20) - 11
(Fighter): Dice Roll (D20) - 11 (-3 for sneak skill)
(DM): The bat hears you and attacks!
Bat 1 dives at the Fighter!
(Bat): Dice Roll (D20) - 16
(DM): The bat hits the fighter and deals...
(Bat): Dice Roll (D6) - 2
(DM): 1 damage (This depends on the rolls along with armor defense, position of attack, etc, the DM will work it out)
(DM): Time to roll initiative.
(DM): Bat - Dice Roll (D20) - 10
(DM): Fighter - Dice Roll (D20) - 2
(DM): Rogue - Dice Roll (D20) - 12
(DM): Wizard - Dice Roll (D20) - 6
(DM): The attack order is: Rogue, Bat, Wizard, Fighter.
(Rogue): I pull out my bow and fire an arrow at the bat.
(Rogue): Dice Roll (D20) - 7
(DM): Your arrow missed.
(DM): The bat attacks the Rogue!
(Bat): Dice Roll (D20) - 18
(DM): The bat hits the Rogue and does...
(Bat): Dice Roll (D6) - 2
(DM): 2 damage!
(Wizard): I cast daze on the bat.
(Wizard): Dice Roll (D20) - 16
(DM): The bat is dazed! It falls to the ground near the Fighter.
(Fighter): I stab the bat with my sword!
(Fighter): Dice Roll (D20) - 20 (This is a critical hit, which does double damage!)
(Fighter): Dice Roll (D6) - 2
(DM): The bat takes 6 damage and is split in 2! A shiny object falls from it's mouth
(Rogue): I search the bat.
(DM): You find a shiny red gem!

That's basically what a simple beginning/battle scenario would look like.

I would prefer that people that have played before, or like to roleplay sign up. For I will only be accepting 3 people. If you don't dedicate yourself to this small group (not making it to dungeons, being late) you will be promptly kicked out.

Wow dude, nice job on this. It sounds epic and a very interesting play :)
Sounds like you put alot of work into this. Curious to learn more.

I wish i I had time to play. Sounds really fun.

I like DnD and I hate to naysay but this will never work. The majority of Blocklanders simply wouldn't grasp most concepts of DnD, not to mention that it's a bitch to get it organized with people you don't know well (especially with people who don't live near you)

It takes a stuffload of preparation to get started, knowledge of the system and how to properly roleplay (lol, roleplay in blockland)

I don't think that the majority of the people here will understand that this all happens in the chat and that there are no actual monsters or cool dungeons. Also, chances of you actually running a successful D&D game with random people are just below zero. People will just run around and do stuff. They won't roleplay. I just know it.

/agree

This is why you should just have people you know play.

I was skeptical as you were awhile ago, but once I tried it and helped people along, alot of them caught on quick. But most weren't online again, which is why I'm choosing 3 reliable people to play my campaign. I've been hosting my campaign for awhile, and I've gotten through over 7 sessions with the party, so I have no doubts that this will be fun if some people that would really like to play sign up.

Furthermore, The blockland version of D&D I've made is much simpler than 3.5 rules.

I would love to try this and I have some ideas for things you could add to make it more visual (like dungeon maps that you "uncover" for the players by breaking the bricks on top hiding the map) but unfortunately, I am busy all day Wednesday so I would not be able to show up consistently that day. I do hope that, if this does get started, that it works out.

You also need the cleric. Clerics are more important than rogues because they provide the healing.

Thanks for the idea.

Hence, I do private sessions with those I KNOW will not goof off in blockland and actually PLAY THE GAME.

I'd like to play.

Use the sign up format.
