Can anyone tell me how to fix this?

On my old computer, alarm in first person and third person sound the same. On this computer, alarm is incredibly loud and low quality in first person.

What do I need to do to fix this?

loud = distortion

Lowering the volume to almost nothing has no affect, it is still low-quality and incredibly loud compared to other things.

i think it's because the sound is coming from you, and so it's louder than if it's played from far away

It depends on what mount point / joint the sound is being played on

true, but it's still emitting from the player, rather than at the edge of the hearing range
