Author Topic: Definition of "Spam"  (Read 1696 times)

Attention: Spam is NOT defined as anything "Not on a base plate." as common myth claims.
Its defined as: "Anything that uses more bricks than necessary".

An example being: Say your making a wall (1x12x5 standard), but instead of using that one brick the (1x12x5), you use 12 1x1x5's to simulate the same effect...
Even a less dramatic split, like 3 1x4x5's is still technically spam. Avoid doing this unless used for a visual purpose.

In conclusion, just because its not red or on a base plate does not mean it isn't spam..
The point of not 'spamming' is to reduce brick count which will cut lag resulting in a smoother gameplay.

Not to mention, Spam is ugly. Take your time with your builds. Don't take the easy way out...

To those who understand this already, Im sorry. It probably seems silly, "Why would you feel the need to post this?" But to some, its a new concept.

It seems like fewer and fewer people truly understand what 'spam' really is and its starting to bugging me.

Too many times have I joined a server just to see an otherwise good build, ruined by excessive use of small bricks. The aspect needs to be refreshed...

Spam is NOT defined as anything "Not on a base plate." as common myth claims.
That's not an accepted definition for it, that's something called a joke.
But of course, some idiots are obligated to take it seriously.

Hell no.

I ask all the people I catch spamming, "What is spam to you". 90% of them say, "Well duh, its when bricks arnt on a baseplate!" or "Uh, when bricks are red... right?"

So, its a pretty widespread belief...

Hell no.

I'm talking if ALL your walls are like that...

Its defined as: "Anything that uses more bricks than necessary".

I spam quite a lot than. :c

Bricks can be placed in short secession for a look that you want to get.
Because 12x1x5s.can be a bit ugly.

I usually use one of the following 2:

A 1 height of light color. Ontop of that, a 5x height of dark color. Then 1x height of dark color 1x height of light color, then 1x height of dark color.

Example:

----------------
----------------
----------------
----------------
----------------
----------------
----------------
----------------

----------------

Or, I just use 1x2 brick walls. Not considered spam if it actually looks nice and fits the brick theme.

Example:

----------------
----------------
----------------
----------------
----------------
----------------
----------------
----------------

----------------

Added onto blue background so the colors are more easily seen.

Example:

-snip-

Added onto blue background so the colors are more easily seen.

That's true, I agree with that.

Big bricks often look really bad. So I "spam" a ton. I dislike your definition.

But if you use larger bricks, your lighting looks horrible.

Yaaaay, Torque.

It also makes cobblestone or brick walls impossible.

It also makes cobblestone or brick walls impossible.
Well, if that's your goal, then the higher brick count is necessary, thus not considered spam.

Ah, misread. You are correct.
