Author Topic: You CAN quote from locked threads, and this thread will tell you how.  (Read 637 times)

So, say you're in drama and you want to get a quote but the thread it was originally in was locked.

To start, I got a link to the latest locked thread in Off-topic.

http://forum.blockland.us/index.php?topic=145479.0

Then, click on the title within the post.

It will add something to the web address.

For this locked thread, it would be "msg3374463#msg3374463"

Now, when you quote somebody it looks like this:
Code: [Select]
[quote author=The Titanium link=topic=145481.msg3374609#msg3374609 date=1298290736]
Yes, yes it is.
[/quote]

See anything that looks familiar from the address of the locked topic?

link=topic=145481.msg3374609#msg3374609

Replace the last line with the last part of the address.

Now it would look like this:
--

And that's how it's done.

Brilliant, my good sir!

i've known this for a while

You can also use that ID to quote posts with formatting without having to manually put in the BBCode yourself:

(Copy the link of a button in the topic you want reply to e.g. first post here)
http://forum.blockland.us/index.php?action=post;quote=3374737;topic=145486.0;num_replies=3;sesc=[...]

(title ID from this topic)
http://forum.blockland.us/index.php?topic=40783.msg632960#msg632960

Using the link with the title replaced (...action=post;quote=632960;topic=145486.0;...)

It starts a reply to this topic with the whole of this quote and formatting already inserted:
Problem: How do I host an internet game?
Problem: I'm trying to host a game but no one joins/ my game doesnt show up in the list

Solution: If you have cable or DSL, you probably need to forward your ports.

Tutorial: http://blockland.us/portForward/

Another tutorial: http://www.blockland.us/smf/index.php?topic=35187.msg533436#msg533436

An entire website devoted to this exact subject: http://www.portforward.com

This process cannot be explained further.  This is the last port-forwarding topic there will ever be.

You can also edit posts in topics that are "too old" using this instead of this , as long as said topic is not locked.
