He needs 7 iron:
3 for the pickaxe required to mine redstone and 4 for the compass.
Also, Redstone is really far underground, it would take a while to get there through twisting miles of cavern.

Try to craft a hoe and collect some seeds to harvest wheat, which you can use to breed animals and baking bread.

Day 3

Well the day hasn't even ended yet as you have come to a very large cavern. You see spots of iron on the side and at the bottom of the hole.

Try to get down as safe as possible? Or do you want to avoid the risk of countless enemies coming your way?

Try to craft ladders, take a sword if you already made one, take some food, torches and watch out for skeletons before you're slowly heading down into the dark pit.
Try always to have a chance of climb fast back up to the surface and light the already explored place up.

Sorry I wasn't able to update yesterday. Had a massive headache. ._.
Day 4

You explore the cave for a good amount of time -- possibly overnight, but you couldn't tell. The picture shows the items you exited the cave with. These items include a multitude of feathers, arrows, sulfur, a red mushroom, and plenty of iron ore. Your tools are worn due to the fact they were the strongest weapon you had down in the caves, and you probably guessed that you were bombarded with countless enemies, making you eat all of your fish.
