Author Topic: Server Hosting Specs  (Read 906 times)

I got a new PC for Christmas, (yes I know that was a while ago)
I'm wondering what the specs for hosting a 32 player dedicated server are.
Here are my specs:
Code: [Select]
Operating System: Windows 7 Professional 64-b
Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM) i5 CPU         760  @ 2.80GHz (4 CPUs), ~2.8GHz
Memory: 16384MB RAM
Card name: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 480
I also have Virtual PC, and was wondering if i could host a dedicated server off my virtual machine.
Here are it's specs:
Code: [Select]
Operating System: Windows XP Professional SP3
Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM) i5 CPU         760  @ 2.80GHz
Memory: 2048MB RAM

Thanks

Definitely the first. It has over 4x the power.

I wasn't asking which one would be better, I know the first one kicks the other one's butt.
I'm just hoping the virtual machine one can support 32 players.

Tom

Why would you need to host a dedicated off a Virtual Machine?

Also it doesn't matter how good your computer is if your internet can't handle the bandwidth. I think Torque uses a whole lot of bandwidth, but you will need a pretty good upload speed to handle 32 players.

how much upload, because this is what Speedtest.net says:

also ignore The Nebo School District, My ISP is Spanish fork Community Network. They also provide Nebo School District's internet.

Upload is stuff.

Your ping is really high too.

Not everybody lives in big enough cities to get good upload speeds. Mine is usually around 0.30 Mb/s, and I've hosted 14 player servers on my internet, 32 shouldn't be a big problem.

Ping might be a little high, but it's 2000 miles away.

And I still want to know why you want to host from a Virtual machine.

Because I was thinking of giving a friend access to the virtual machine so he could host a dedicated server.
But my dad said I can't give him a virtual machine so it wouldn't have worked anyway, thanks for the input though.
