The avatar has to have equal dimensions to 75y 75x or else it will resize and ultimately break the image.

The .gif image needs to be 75 pixels wide and 75 pixels tall in order to work/keep transparency, maybe GIMP can do that without breaking the animation, i don't know, Photoshop can do that though
