it's not that amazing that his area just got fiber optic internet. like, not remotely surprising. fiber optic isn't "the norm" for most people.

If you don't live in an area that is somewhat rural you more than likely do not have fiberoptic

Eh, maybe I'm just lucky. I'm in bumforget nowhere, under Alabama's Taint, and we have it.

Where I live a ton of people are here, mostly from newyork but our internet is absolutely terrible

It's all about politics. ISPs sign contracts with cities, so it's all about waiting until your crappy ISP gets it or someone is fed up enough with your towns ISP to not let the get the contract.
