Author Topic: Why is RTB scanning for proxies?  (Read 1682 times)

What does this mean?

It means your connection is being scanned for open proxies.

kind of self explanatory lol

RTB doesn't own their IRC.

I guess their IRC provider doesn't want people using proxies and spamming or something like that.

Most IRC servers don't want you using proxies to circumvent bans and whatnot, so most of them do an open proxy scan.

An open proxy is commonly used for anonymity and to circumvent bans. FreeNode(RTB's IRC server, not owned by RTB) blocks open proxies.

Actually, RTB uses centralchat.

"FreeNode" is probably just one of the names that they named their servers with, like "dropbear" and "zoidberg".

I was thinking that he was confusing freenode.net, an IRC host, with centralchat.net, a competing IRC host.

Centralnet K-Lines (automatic, system-wide ban irrelevant to #rtb) for 2 reasons:

1. If your IP is a proxy website, you're K-Lined.
2. If your IP is on the list of Onion nodes, you're K-Lined.

This is a preventative measure to help reduce ban circumventing.

What kind of proxies does it look for?

Isn't it some provider?
It's only mentioned 3 times in this thread.
