My laptop's not working!

Ok, my mom's boss gave her a laptop which she gave me,
Its not working when ever I start it up, after is laods the screen just stays black
I never really used a windows laptop, but I want to know if anyone know how I can fix it.
Its a windows XP Professional 1-2CPU WUNBOOK X4.
Im wanting to get it to work so I can play blockland on the road.
Also, could I some how do system recovery, and how would I get the disk/software to do it?

How far does it get before going black? Does the operating system start booting?

If the operating system isn't corrupted, you can try booting up from safe mode, and then doing a system restore in safe mode, but that will only work if the cause is a virus.

Otherwise, use the CD you installed windows with and try repairing the operating system.

Boot from CD and reinstall, if that doesn't work, it's probably going to be more than it's worth to fix it. まほ～

I dont have the CD, and how could I boot it up in safemode, I think its just a virus, cause my moms boss says its got somekind of virus or something.
Also, I dont have the CD, is there a way I could buy one like at wal-mart or something?

you can boot from safemode without the CD, go google how to do it.

I did, didn't wanna go to safemode, I searched and it said Hold F8 while its starting up if it says something bout stuck key just keep tapping F8

Basically you need to obtain a new copy of Windows XP.

Well, I am registered with an online school, and get a Restore Plus CD for a desktop, could I get it to work?
It says Windows XP on it.
