You either have been around the wrong kind of cats or you're extremely ignorant.

Either way I'll ignore you.

I hope it doesn't! ;)

Dogs are better to stay outside.
I have my dogs outside, but sometimes we let they in, and our cat doesn't seem to worry, and walks away.
However, if your dog's dangerous, you should hide your cat.

My dog's a runner. She takes off running if she's loose and she's usually a loving idiot.

My dog (English roosterer Spanial), who is a large dog for his breed, is kept inside the house, as are my two cats.
The two cats, who are simply mongrel, are extremely loving.
The older, timid, female, "Patch" named for the patches of white, black and ginger that cover her coat, is extremely loving, but fearful of fast-moving people and can not stand to be picked up.
The younger, slightly more adventurous, but curently lazy, male, "Incy" named after the Children's Nursery Rhyme, is even more loving. He will follow you around, and, due to his being kicked off of his mother's milk at an early age (He then proceeded to latch onto our older, now passed away, Labrador/Springer Spanial, and actually suckle the dog, despite him being a male.
Anyway, the dog would put up to it, and the cat is very clingy.
If you're stroking him, or he's sat near you and wants to be stroked, he will stretch his paw out gently, curve it around to your skin (Often your face) and pull you towards him with his claws. :c

Anyway, with the roosterer being younger than the cats, and having been introduced to them a few years after the Labrador/Springer passed away, as a puppy, he's always been under the control of the cats.
He is actually frightened of the cats.
He doesn't like Patch, because she will ocassionally try to rub up against him, and if he shows interest, she'll smack him, and if he's running around, or his tail is wagging, which he can't control, she'll give him a sharp smack.
And he's scared of Incy, because he will smack the dog if he's being silly, and if the cat is loving up against the dog, he'll dig his claws into him to pull him closer, often near his ears or his mouth. :c

But normally, they get on very well. :)

Oh my cat gets along with my dog very well. He rubs against her face, he tries to lay on top of her and sometimes he follows her around.

The dog is just extremely hyper and sometimes jumps on people.

Don't want the dog squishing the cat anytime soon :p

Oh, so they are good friends?
That's good.
Still, be careful with the hyper-ness. :o

The cat's going to live inside soon, though. The dog (named "latte" because she has a dark brown coat with a light brown belly) is getting old and she's not as bad as she used to be.

My cat is my dogs(Copper, beagle) entrepreneur  aways trying to scratch him up, but he died :c
