Author Topic: Getting an alienware M17x, throwing broken vista away. *playing chosen games*  (Read 2699 times)

*see third page*

So, as the title implies, Im getting an M17x, Med - high spec upgrades chosen. My main desktop computer, a vista, got some hidden java & flash breaker virus thing, and I pretty much said "Y'know, forget VISTA." and threw a book at my computer, preventing a start up anyway.

i got 3-2 day shipping.

Here's my spec upgrade things:

PROCESSOR   Intel® Core™ i7 2720QM 2.2GHz (3.3GHz Turbo Mode, 6MB Cache)
OPERATING SYSTEM   Genuine Windows® 7 Home Premium, 64bit
MEMORY   8GB Dual Channel DDR3 at 1333MHz (4DIMMS)
VIDEO CARD   1.5GB GDDR5 Nvidia GeForce GTX 460M
HARD DRIVE   750GB 7,200RPM HDD
LCD PANEL   17.3-inch WideHD+ 1600 x 900 60Hz WLED
WIRELESS CARD   Wireless 802.11 g/n
INTERNAL OPTICAL DRIVE   Slot-Load Dual Layer DVD Burner (DVD+-RW, CD-RW)
SYSTEM COLOR   Alienware M17x, Soft Touch Stealth Black

My Software & Accessories
PERSONALIZED PLATE   Personalized Plate (Sr38890x)
PRE-INSTALLED GAMES   Steam and Portal™ Factory Installed
ALIENFX COLOR   Quasar Blue
OS CUSTOMIZATION     AlienGUIse Theme Manager with Breed Theme

I proobably like, unbalanced it, alot.

Anyway, discuss this and/or yell at me for whatever raisin about this.

It's only "med-high specs" according to Dell because that's their middle/medium option, any higher is just unnecessary stuff like a 3.0 GHz i7 or two GTX480Ms in a laptop  :cookieMonster:

That's a very, VERY nice laptop you're getting.  How much was it?

Like... $2,033.

Yeah I can't dream of affording that.

I suggest getting extra warranty on it.  Just in case.

I could buy 4 old PS3's with that money, put Linux on them ( old TOS, not piracy bro ) and make a supercomputer out of the forgeter.

I once used the customize thing on an Alienware M17x.
I made it cost about $8,000.

I still find it hilarious how people say this, although Vista's been ultimately more stable for me than Windows 7.

That laptop is $200 less then my ATV. Damn.

Alienware is a ripoff because of branding.

Best part is, it's not even really a "laptop". It's probably too big and heavy to actually take anywhere.

meh. Even if that's the case, I still think the $1000 I paid for my M11x was worth it 2 months later.

Yeah I can't dream of affording that.

By myself I couldnt dream of affording a $400 one. :I

Oh, I don't even have near enough. 'tis a reward from my parents for years of doing every chore for no allowance.

Worth it, though.

I classify it as a "mobile computer".  You aren't supposed to take it like everywhere like a netbook or laptop, but you move it when you're going to places that you may need it, i.e. boring family reunions.

That's because it's a unique machine, I've never seen another gaming netbook type thing.
