Author Topic: What is a dedicated server?  (Read 647 times)

I've heard of this but I'm not sure what it is. So what is a dedicated and how can I host one?

Dedicated servers are servers that stay up on your computer for as long as the PC is running.
I suggest you don't host one unless you have a spare PC or really good specs on your current PC.
If you want to know why, my PC's power supply was blown out after my parents turned it off in fear that it might overheat. And I had a Dedi up that day.

But if you want to set one up-
1. Select the addons you want for your server.
2. Open the blockland folder and look for the-crap, its....someone post below me what file you are supposed to click
3. start a single player game, and exit out of blockland once you have spawned.
4. Click that file....crap. Still can't remember.

Alright, thanks a bunch, I'll ask around what that file is, but thanks for at least describing it's function.

Blockland/Dedicated.batch

You can also create dedicated LAN servers (just for people on your network) with the DedicatedLAN.batch file.

Oh, and to simplify The Corporation's version:

1.) Create a server with the add-ons you want in the dedicated server.
2.) Shut down the server once you have spawned, and make sure other players can join the server.
3.) Skip this step if you want the start-up map to be Slate (default). Go into your Blockland folder and right click the Dedicated.batch file. Click 'Edit' and change 'slate' (the map name) to whatever map you want the server to start at.
4.) Double-click the Dedicated.batch file, and a console should appear.
5.) Start up Blockland and try to join your server once it has posted to the Master Server (it'll say in the Dedicated console)

A dedicated server is a server that is dedicated. Meaning you don't have to be on it for it to be up. Start the .bat file and done. Find it and join it in the server list.

Thanks man.
