So i boot up my computer this afternoon to find out that SVCHOST.EXE is hogging up 50% to 90% of my CPU and if i end the process it kills my sound.

What the hell is going on?

I have that too. Also, use google. It's an essential process to your computer

svchost is a service that allowd .dll files to run because they are not executable files themselves.  Windows may open up multiple instances of the service based on resource demand

I used google but it takes forever as my computer is running slower than walking a meter with cars tied to your feet.

are you sure it is not scvhost.exe?

because if it is scvhost.exe and not svchost.exe it is a virus.

otherwise it's fine and you should leave it.

restart your computer, it should resolve the issue

Done, but it froze up.

But it just suddenly stopped hogging my processor after i started playing music streamed from the internet and did a rookit scan... odd.

probably just a bug or something, your computer should be fine

It's a system process, leave it alone.

It is not just a system process. He suspects it to be a virus because it is one of the most common programs for viruses to inject and disguise themselves into.

I forgot to mention the svchost that deals with sound often acts like he mentioned. It also seems to be the one that takes the most memory at all times.

I have an average of 15% memory usage.
c:

svchost.exe is a system process which hosts system services. Each system service gets an instance.
Check what services you have running.

Speaking of memory hogging, my 8 Gb system keeps telling me I'm using 2.5 Gb on startup AND on a slate (IE Desktop, no programs running)... Is that normal?

Had something like this on my old computer. After getting a pop up from it, I couldn't open any program at all. There was also a Win32 error.
I think it was a virus.
