Author Topic: I have myself a choice with computers here...  (Read 1013 times)

I could get my dad's computer for use at my mom's house, here are the specs,

AMD Athlon dual core 2.3 GHz
like 600mb of RAM (lol)
Nvidia GeForce 6150 SE
250 gb HDD

Now, I could take this, and put in an ATI radeon 4650, upgrade the RAM, and keep it, or sell the ATI radeon for 50 bucks. What do you guys think I should do? Oh yeah, it is a stuff ton better than my laptop, clocking in at,

1.7 GHz dual core intel celeron
stuffty ass intel graphics
3 Gb RAM
200 gb HDD

I think I should go with the first deal, but I also do want a new PSU for my better computer, which I could get by selling the ATI card.

Mow some lawns and buy a real computer. まほ~

At $20 a lawn, it would take like 50 lawns to get an okay-to-good computer. More to get something real nice. I say keep it and upgrade it with the radeon/ram/etc.

My decent computer is, well, decent.

I am talking about my mom's house, where my computer is worse than bad things

You can get a top-end computer for $1000.

I don't really play super demanding games though.

You can get a top-end computer for $1000.

$1000 is mid-range, you cheap bastard. IMO best value, but still mid-range. Top-end graphics cards are $700ish (radeon 6990, GTX 590) right now, there's no way you can get a complete top-end system for $1000. It's just not possible.

Its not a stuff ton better.

The processors are in the same class, the AMD is a little better but I'd be surprised if it made a huge impact.
Obviously the RAM in your dads computer is stupid, and the graphics card is also poor (but you did say you'd improve that so yeah).

Holy forget I will go build one now for ~$1000 if you don't believe me.

My parents wouldn't buy me a comp worth more than 450.

So I bought my own.

Hahaha i know you can build a computer for $1000. But it won't be top-end. Like I said, a top-end graphics card alone is $700.
So yes, go build me a top-end computer (including top-end gpu) for $1000. I'd like to see you try.

edit: gpu's if you havent seen them: 590 6990

I'm waitin' for that build, Otis. Can't wait to buy myself a top-end PC for $1000!

Thats overkill

In almost all cases, yes. But they're the top-end GPUs, and Otis said top-end.
